About the Program

Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi’s (Re)Learning Program is solutions-based, interactive, and fun. Our educators focus on defining marine debris and explaining where it comes from, how it negatively affects people and our environment, and–most importantly–what we can do about it. SCH empowers people of all ages to take immediate action in their everyday lives to address plastic pollution and encourages people to get their friends, family, schools, and community involved. SCH (Re)Learning opportunities are always free for schools and student groups!

PRESENTATIONS & WORKSHOPS

Nature is the Teacher

We take participants on a journey to discover where plastic pollution comes from, how it enters the environment, and its impact on nature and people. Through storytelling and hands-on experiences, SCH emphasizes the importance of our kuleana (responsibility) to mālama ‘āina (to care for our environment) and empowers people to become stewards of the land and ocean. Download our program to learn more about the slide presentations and activities we offer.  You are not able to host in-person presentation, or located outside our beautiful islands? Book your virtual presentation here.

CLEANUPS & FIELD TRIPS

Get your hands dirty!

We invite participants to step outside of the classroom or the office, and attend hands-on beach cleanups and other experiences. By getting their hands dirty cleaning beaches across Hawaiʻi or learning about soil and composting at Full Circle Farm, we gain first-hand exposure to the severity of the plastic pollution problem as well as the solutions available for “turning off the tap”.

Providing Immersive Learning Experiences from Mauka (Mountain) to Makai (Ocean)

The (re)Learning Ahupuaʻa Program by Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi is an educational program designed to connect the dots from mauka (mountains) to makai (ocean) through experiential connections with ʻāina (land; that which feeds).

Interview An SCH Team Member

Get your hands dirty!

Students from elementary through post-secondary are invited to request interviews with an SCH team member (virtually or in-person) to support assignments such as project-based learning, research papers, or SCHool interviews. We welcome requests from both local and international students and aim to provide insightful, real-world perspectives to help bring your projects to life. Request your interview at the button at the top of the page.

VIRTUAL PRESENTATIONS

We are only one click away

In response to the pandemic, SCH has adapted its curriculum to be accessible virtually, from anywhere in the world. Don’t worry, we’re bored of the typical zoom meeting and slideshow presentation too! Our virtual experiences are filled with fun interactive games and personalized content to keep students engaged.
